Bodegas Ateca is a project of the GIL family in the appellation of Calatayud. The predominant variety in this area is the Garnacha –Grenache-, situated in incredible slate soils where vines are situated on hillsides with pronounced slopes and in some cases at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level. Very poor soils and extreme weather conditions make this an ideal place to grow high-quality grapes with which the wines of Bodegas Ateca are produced. The vineyards owned by the winery are made up of multiple small parcels between the ages of 30 and 100 years old. The facilities are located in the town of Ateca 14 kilometers south of Calatayud, the namesake of the appellation. The local winemaker Roberto Pérez oversees all aspects of winemaking produced at this estate.
