Chateau la Rabotine
Set among the gently rolling hills of Sancerre in France’s Loire Valley, Château la Rabotine is a historic estate where centuries of heritage meet the precision and vitality of modern organic winemaking. Rich in history and deeply rooted in place, the château tells a uniquely French story—one shaped by family legacy, resilience, and an enduring connection to the land.
The origins of Château la Rabotine date back to the early 1600s, when the estate was established by Louis Rabotin, a local notary whose name remains forever tied to the property and its vineyards. Over the centuries, the château became woven into the fabric of the region’s history. During the French Revolution, the estate served as a place of refuge, when the daughters of owner Antoine Grangier courageously sheltered persecuted priests within its walls for more than two years.
While the château’s history stretches back over four centuries, its modern viticultural identity has been shaped by the Roblin family, whose roots in the nearby village of Sury-en-Vaux date to the 1920s. In 2010, Alban Roblin—grandson of renowned Sancerre vigneron Georges Roblin—and his wife united the historic estate with their family vineyards, creating a singular domaine dedicated to expressing the purity and elegance of Sancerre terroir.
Today, Château la Rabotine spans 12 hectares across 19 distinct vineyard parcels nestled among the limestone-rich slopes of Sury-en-Vaux and Maimbray. Perched at higher elevations and cooled by natural valley breezes, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional microclimate that supports sustainable, certified organic farming practices. The estate’s soils—comprised of Kimmeridgian clay known as Terres Blanches and the famed limestone-rich Caillottes—lend remarkable minerality, freshness, and structure to the wines.
The vineyards are planted predominantly to Sauvignon Blanc, alongside select parcels of Pinot Noir. Through meticulous vineyard management and a restrained approach in the cellar, Alban Roblin crafts wines that are precise, vibrant, and unmistakably expressive of their origin. The Sancerre Blanc, in particular, is celebrated for its crystalline minerality, lifted citrus and floral aromatics, and refined tension—hallmarks of the estate’s elevated terroir.
At Château la Rabotine, tradition and innovation exist in harmony. Historic foundations remain deeply respected, while a forward-looking philosophy guides every aspect of the domaine’s evolution. The result is a collection of wines that capture both the timeless elegance of Sancerre and the authentic spirit of the Loire Valley—wines of purity, character, and enduring sophistication.
