Domaine Jessiaume
In the heart of Santenay, at the southern gateway to Burgundy's celebrated Côte de Beaune, Domaine Jessiaume has been crafting wines that express the individuality of Burgundy's renowned climats since 1850. Today, the estate spans approximately 15 hectares (37 acres) across some of the region's most respected appellations, including Santenay, Beaune, Volnay, Pommard, Auxey-Duresses, and Chassey-le-Camp. Each parcel offers its own distinct voice, allowing the domaine to showcase the remarkable diversity that defines Burgundy.
While deeply rooted in tradition, Domaine Jessiaume has embraced a thoughtful new chapter in recent years. Since 2014, an ambitious winemaking team has reimagined the estate with a focus on precision, sustainability, and minimal intervention. Under the ownership of Dr. Jean-François Le Bigot since 2020, significant investments have further elevated both the vineyards and the cellar, reinforcing a singular commitment to producing wines of purity, elegance, and authentic terroir expression.
Organic farming now lies at the heart of the domaine's philosophy. Every vineyard is cultivated with respect for its natural ecosystem, encouraging healthy soils and balanced vines that faithfully reflect their origins. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, while meticulous grape sorting ensures only the finest fruit reaches the cellar. There, gravity-flow handling, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction, minimal sulphur, and careful élevage allow each wine to develop naturally, preserving both finesse and site character. Whenever the vintage permits, chaptalization is avoided, further emphasizing the authenticity of each harvest.
Winemaker and Vineyard Manager William Waterkeyn leads the estate with a philosophy centred on restraint and balance. Rather than pursuing power, the wines are crafted to reveal freshness, transparency, and longevity—qualities that have become hallmarks of modern Domaine Jessiaume. Whether Chardonnay or Pinot Noir, each cuvée reflects the subtle nuances of Burgundy's limestone soils, combining vibrant fruit, refined structure, and remarkable precision.
